POLYPS
2 Types:
- 1. pedunculated
- 2. sessile
Description:
- * If the polyp is pedunculated, it may be attached only by a narrow stem
- * If the polyp is sessile-type, it may closely attach to mucosa
- * The lesion is often soft and fluid filled
Characteristics:
- * Vocal polyps are usually unilateral
- * Hoarseness, roughness, or breathiness are typical perceptual signs
Measurable Physiological Signs:
- * Increased air flow may be present
Observable Physiological Signs:
- * Polyps appear as large masses on the vocal fold
- * A polyp will increase the mass which becomes fluid filled
Patholophysiology:
- * Glottal closure may be affected which interfering with the approximation of the normal fold
